AmeriQuest Technologies said Wednesday that it will sell its CMS Enhancements Inc. subsidiary to the unit’s general manager, Kenneth Burke.

CMS designs, makes and markets data storage systems solutions. It was started in 1983 and changed its name to AmeriQuest in 1993, shifted its focus to wholesale distribution of computer products and retained the CMS operations in Costa Mesa as a subsidiary.

AmeriQuest recently relocated its headquarters from Orange County to Florida.

Burke, a 20-year computer industry veteran who became CMS general manager in 1995, will be president of the newly independent company, which now concentrates on hard drives for notebook computers and on CD-ROM products for computer networks.

“Over the past three years, we’ve operated with complete autonomy and control over our market and product direction,” Burke said. “The buyout will allow us to fully develop and expand our resources.”
