Tagger’s Fall

* What possible purpose is served by printing photos in The Times (June 12) of the graffiti painted on the Mulholland overpass of the San Diego Freeway? Since the person responsible for this vandalism is apparently so desperate for attention of any kind that he would risk his life to place his tagging before us, have you not furthered his purpose by giving his scrawlings the wide distribution that only The Times could provide?

* I was appalled by the lengths that Daniel Supple would travel to “tag” his moniker on public property. When asked why he would do such a thing, one of his friends said that it was for the thrill and “for the art aspect.” I do not see the artistic expression involved in scrawling your street name across a piece of concrete like an animal marking its territory. Consider the frame of mind he was in to climb onto a ledge 100 feet above speeding cars, and then leap off because there was no escape. It is a frightening thought to imagine the youth of today leading our country tomorrow!
