Bermuda Bans Fast-Food Chains
Bermuda is turning away some well-known foreigners to conserve its tourist appeal. The British colony’s parliament has banned all foreign fast-food chains on the island, saying they would hurt the popular tourist destination’s “old world” charm. The vote Friday killed a proposed McDonald’s restaurant and quashed budding plans for a Pizza Hut and a Taco Bell. Bermuda, located 600 miles east of North Carolina, maintains its ambience by prohibiting gambling, controlling car ownership and prohibiting men from appearing in public without a shirt.
