The Laguna Art Museum will receive roughly $12,500 annually in interest income from a $1-million endowment established by the Harry and Grace Steele Foundation in the name of their late daughter, Barbara Steele Williams, according to the Orange County Community Foundation, which administers the endowment. The Laguna museum was originally designated as one of four beneficiaries, but the matter came into question when the museum merged with the former Newport Harbor Art Museum to become the Orange County Museum of Art. The Community Foundation resolved that the money should go to the Laguna museum because Barbara Steele Williams served on its board from 1972-80. The Orange County Performing Arts Center, the Laguna Playhouse and the Art Institute of Southern California also each will receive about $12,500 annually from the same endowment. The first checks are expected to go out next week, a foundation spokeswoman said.
