Water Rates to Rise 40% in Next 3 Years

Share

Fillmore residents will see their water rates increase almost 40% in the next three years but will still have some of the county’s lowest fees.

In addition, the city’s sewer rates will jump 10% effective Aug. 1 but will still be the lowest in the county.

No one spoke out against the higher fees when the City Council approved the rate increases this week.

Water rates will rise 13% in each of the next three years. That translates into a minimum monthly rate of $17.44 by 1999 or about $4 more than what residents pay today. In contrast, the city said, residents of a typical single-family home in Newbury Park pay $54.81 a month for water, and Ventura residents pay $19.47.

The water rate increases will help fund $7.3 million in bonds that are to be used to pay for such system improvements as a new 3-million-gallon reservoir to replace one damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake.
