A floor manager for a Vietnam-based, Taiwanese-owned factory that makes shoes for Nike Inc. was sentenced to six months in prison for abusing workers. Dong Nai provincial People’s Court in Vietnam found Hsu Chin-Yun guilty of mistreating workers at Nike subcontractor Pou Chen Co. The ruling came just days after former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, hired by Nike to review its labor practices in Asia, acknowledged some incidents of abuse, but said he found no pattern of widespread mistreatment. . . . The U.S. Office of Thrift Supervision approved the $7.8-billion merger of Washington Mutual Inc. and Chatsworth-based Great Western Financial Corp. . . . Beverly Hills-based Hilton Hotels Corp. extended its $55-a-share cash tender offer for 50.1% of ITT Corp. for the fifth time. . . . Pasadena-based Ameron International Corp. reported net income for its fiscal second quarter ending May 31 of $5.3 million, or $1.30 a share, compared with $4.6 million, or $1.09, a year ago. . . . Spectrum Information Technologies Inc. of Purchase, N.Y., agreed to settle Securities and Exchange Commission allegations that the company schemed to inflate its profit and issue unregistered stock. Spectrum neither admitted nor denied the allegations in agreeing to be subject to stiffer sanctions if it again commits similar violations.
