Carnival Planned for Children at Shelter

Share

Infants, teenagers and children all ages in between will celebrate in Saturday’s summer carnival at Valley Shelter.

From 1 to 4 p.m., children staying at the shelter on Lankershim Boulevard will take part in activities including games, face painting, craft booths and a puppet show.

The day was principally organized by Darya Pollak, an 18-year-old Sherman Oaks resident, so that she could earn the Gold Award, a Girl Scouts honor equivalent to the Boy Scouts’ Eagle Scout badge.

Pollak solicited local businesses to donate goods for the event and coordinated her efforts with those of the Valley Shelter staff.

“She’s been really good getting this together,” said Donaji Rodriguez, the children’s program coordinator.

Local student and adult volunteers as well as Girl Scouts will help run the carnival.
