A man sought in the robbery-killing of a convenience store clerk in Bellflower surrendered to police in Hawaii, authorities said Sunday.

Gilbert Tevanui Scott, 18, of Bellflower, was arrested for investigation of murder by Honolulu police after he surrendered Saturday night, said Deputy Carrie Stuart of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Extradition warrants were issued but Honolulu police said it was unclear when Scott might be returned to California.

The Sheriff’s Department had tipped authorities in Honolulu that Scott might be in town. He surrendered after police contacted relatives on the island.

Scott allegedly entered a convenience store at an Arco gas station at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and shot the clerk before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.

The clerk, Bhoj Prasad Gurung, 35, was pronounced dead on the scene.

“We got calls from local residents through the homicide bureau identifying the suspect after we took his picture off a video surveillance tape and circulated it,” Stuart said.
