Leaving Foster Care

Share

Thank you for recognizing the plight of children as they leave the foster care system at age 18 (editorial, July 28). Many of these youths become homeless. Thanks to private-sector support, we at United Friends of the Children created the Bridges to Independence program providing housing, job training and other services to these youths.

With welfare reform, we need more involvement of the private sector in helping the disadvantaged in obtaining meaningful employment and in many other ways. Hats off to the Weingart Foundation, Metropolitan YMCA, Salvation Army and Covenant House California for caring.
