Orange County Team Wins Series

Matt Gamble from University High pitched four shutout innings as the undefeated Orange County Stars beat AFPC of Tennessee, 13-6, in the title game of the Mickey Mantle World Series Monday in McKinney, Texas.

Jake Kungle of Loara had five hits, drove in three runs and scored two for the Stars, a team of 15- and 16-year-olds based in Anaheim. The Stars went 5-0 in the tournament.

Gamble was selected the tournament’s most valuable player and Kungle received the Big Stick Award, which is given to the top hitter.

The Stars outscored opponents 38-10 in the tournament. The team, managed by Dan Barragan of Anaheim, was 12-2 in the regular season and 10-1 in postseason games.
