6 Killed in Shelling of Lebanese Port
Israeli-backed militiamen fired artillery shells Monday into Sidon, southern Lebanon’s provincial capital, killing six people and injuring at least 34--apparently in retaliation for the deaths of two children in a bombing earlier in the day.
The Lebanese army--which has largely stayed out of the fighting in the south--retaliated with artillery barrages.
Israeli military sources said Israel-backed South Lebanon Army militiamen fired the shells at the port city from outside the zone Israel occupies in southern Lebanon.
