Financial columnist Dan Dorfman, fired last year by Money magazine for failing to tell his editor where he got information for his reports, has settled the dispute with Money publisher Time Inc. for undisclosed terms. . . . Online service CompuServe Corp. reported a narrower-than-expected first-quarter loss--before charges--of $4.1 million, or 4 cents a share, from $17.1 million, or 19 cents, a year ago. . . . MCI Communications Corp. said it reopened discussion of the economic terms of its existing merger agreement with British Telecom, following a joint management review of the prospects of both companies. “There can be no assurance as to the outcome of the discussions,” MCI said. . . . A federal judge ordered the managers of American Growth Capital Corp., a Las Vegas-based investment firm, to turn over control of the company to a court-appointed official, the Securities and Exchange Commission said. The SEC requested the change, alleging that the company’s American Growth Fund I was fraudulently managed by Donna L. Snyder and Charles E. Duquette, both of Las Vegas. A hearing was scheduled for today to determine whether the court official should be given permanent control. Roger Christianson, an attorney representing Snyder, denied the allegations. Duquette and his attorney weren’t available for comment.
