A Canadian-based telecommunications company said it has agreed to acquire two California courier services that serve the optical industry, including Custom Courier Services Inc. of Anaheim.

Amtelecom Group Inc. of Alymer, Ontario, said that its California subsidiary will acquire Custom and Centurion Courier Services Inc. of San Francisco for a total of $6.1 million.

The company said the acquisitions will position its subsidiary, Insurance Courier Services Inc., as the major courier in California’s fixed route and optical distribution market.

Amtelecom said the subsidiary will pay for the acquisitions with a combination of cash and notes, with maturities ranging up to 10 years. The transaction is scheduled to close Jan. 2.
