Norwalk police arrested five men and confiscated more than $40,000 worth of silk-screening equipment and counterfeit designer clothing Wednesday in a raid on a garment operation, a Norwalk detective said.

Five silk-screening machines, one dryer and more than 4,000 counterfeit products--mostly T-shirts and sweatshirts that bore well-known labels including Nike, Polo, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Fila, Versace, and Reebok--were seized in the raid, Det. Richard Hiles said.

The equipment was valued at $2,000 and the clothing was worth about $40,000, Hiles said.

Norwalk detectives served a search warrant at the operation on Tom White Way on Wednesday after being alerted to the operation by a private investigative service that tracks counterfeit operations in the garment industry, Hiles said.
