Two men pleaded guilty Monday to a hate crime charge stemming from their attacks on two male transvestites last month, authorities said.
Under the terms of the Los Angeles Municipal Court plea, David Miller, 20, of Independence. Mo., is being sentenced to 220 days in jail, and Joshua Urena, 21, of Hacienda Heights, to 180 days in jail.
Both will be placed on three years of probation and will be required to attend sensitivity training. They pleaded guilty to interference with the exercise of civil rights.
The charges involve two incidents on Nov. 5 in Hollywood.
In the first incident, the men drove up to the first victim and shouted anti-gay slurs. Miller then got out of the car and hit the victim in the face with a club, Deputy City Atty. Brian Williams said. About 10 minutes later, the pair stopped the second victim to ask him directions and Miller punched him in the face. The victim flagged a police car and the two were arrested.
