Council to Question Manager Candidates

Share

City Council members are scheduled to interview their top three candidates for city manager on Tuesday, bringing them closer to filling a position that has been vacant for nearly a year.

A Northern California executive search firm began looking for candidates last summer and received 33 applications. Council members recently reviewed a list of nine top candidates and winnowed the list to three.

Officials said that the top candidates to replace fired City Manager Tom Frutchey are all men, and that one is from out of state. All are working for government organizations, officials said.

On Tuesday, each council member will interview the candidates individually, and each candidate will also be interviewed by the full board. The interviews will be conducted in closed session.

“The first meeting was a long list, and we’ve pared it down to a short list,” City Councilman Dean Maulhardt said. “All I can say is that the resumes are interesting.”

Added Mayor Manuel Lopez: “I think the quality of candidates is very good. . . . I think they have what we’re looking for.”
