Uninsured Children
Stephanie Simon’s wrenching account of hundreds of thousands of low-income children in California without medical or dental insurance and often without appropriate care for their illnesses (Dec. 7) appears in a paper swollen with hundreds of pages of advertisements for mostly nonessential luxuries and Peter H. King’s column describing the $258 Gucci toothbrush and $850 dog collar.
Other industrial countries guarantee a decent level of care for all of their children. Our country prefers low taxes for corporations and the wealthy. What a commentary on our political leaders and on all of us as citizens.
