Davis: Shaky Wheel No Excuse
Freshman point guard Baron Davis said he had no problem with Coach Steve Lavin holding him out of the starting lineup in UCLA’s victory over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, even though Davis had an excuse for being late to the pregame shoot-around.
“The wheel was shaking,” Davis said of his car as he was driving back to campus for the workout. “I’m not a mechanic. . . . It was drivable, but I was being cautious.
“I got to a certain speed, and it’d start shaking. So I just drove real slow back to campus and I was late.”
Once he walked in late, Davis said he knew what to expect from Lavin.
“I thanked him for that,” Davis said. “I appreciated the discipline. And I think I deserved it. The team has rules, and you have to follow them.”
