State Takes Over DUI Case Against Judge

Share

The state attorney general’s office formally decided Monday to handle the drunk-driving case against presiding Ventura County Superior Court Judge Robert Bradley, although no decision has been made on whether to file charges.

The district attorney’s office requested the attorney general’s involvement shortly after Bradley was arrested Dec. 6 in Ojai by the California Highway Patrol, said Sara Brown, a spokeswoman for attorney general’s office.

State officials concluded Monday that county prosecutors should not handle the case due to their close working relationship with Bradley.

Brown said officials are now reviewing the facts of the case before making a decision on filing charges against Bradley, who has taken a leave of absence and has not been available for comment.

Officials with the state Commission on Judicial Performance, which has the power to censure a judge in such cases, say it likely will not act until the criminal case is resolved.
