William W. Hewston; Oil Business Owner

Ventura resident William W. Hewston, owner of Measurement and Control Engineering in Ventura, died Friday. He was 60.

Hewston was born in Ventura on Aug. 15, 1937. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1955. In 1972, he took a leadership role in the region’s oil industry with his company, Measurement and Control Engineering, which tested oil wells, family members said.

Hewston was a longtime member of the Ventura Rotary Club, Petroleum Product Pioneers and the Western States Petroleum Assn. He was also past president of the Ventura County Boy Scouts Council.

Hewston is survived by his wife, Leanna, of Prescott, Ariz.; mother Louise Hewston of Ventura; daughter Tammy Hewston of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; sons Darren Hewston of Los Angeles and Marc Hewston of Anchorage; brother Mike Hewston of Paso Robles and sister Joanne Stibor of Ventura.

A memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Ventura, with the Rev. Donald Dewey officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
