More homes near Los Angeles International Airport will get soundproofing in the next phase of a seven-year project.

The city’s Board of Airport Commissioners on Tuesday awarded a $535,200 contract to Great West Contractors in Anaheim to soundproof 16 Playa del Rey homes near the airport. The residences will get double-paned windows, solid-core doors and attic insulation to cut down on noise from airplanes.

This is the beginning of the second phase of the airport’s program to upgrade nearly 9,000 residences in Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles.
