Regulations Sought for Home Facilities

Share

The City Council officially has begun pushing for state laws that will let local communities keep track of homes that are used for everything from elderly care to programs for juveniles on parole.

City staff members will begin researching efforts by state legislators to regulate care facilities, and Councilwoman Sherri M. Butterfield will fly to Sacramento on Friday to attend a task force meeting dealing with the issue.

“We don’t ever know where these facilities exist [in Mission Viejo], necessarily,” Butterfield said. “Currently under the law, we don’t have any control of these residences.”

The city is aware of a number of elderly care homes but doesn’t know if any juvenile parolee programs exist locally, Butterfield said.
