ORANGE — Mills Corp. on Thursday unveiled a second round of anchor tenants at CityMills, the outdoor shopping and entertainment complex that is rising on the site of the old City Shopping Center in Orange.
Florida-based Ron Jon Surf Shop will open the largest surf wear store in California. At 25,500 square feet, it will be the size of a typical Sav-On drug store. The company’s Cocoa Beach, Fla., store draws 2.3 million shoppers a year.
In addition, Sega GameWorks, a venture between the video game maker and DreamWorks studio, will open Stage 35, a high-tech arcade.
Other major tenants announced Thursday include Dave & Buster’s, the Texas-based restaurant and “adult playground” chain, and Borders Books. Dave & Buster’s is opening its first Orange County eatery at the Irvine Spectrum in 1998. The Borders store will be the chain’s third in Orange County. The others are in Brea and Mission Viejo.
Five other restaurants have committed to opening in the project: Wolfgang Puck Cafe/Express, Johnny Rockets, Mulberry Street Pizzeria, Cafe Tu Tu Tango and ObaChine, a Pan-Asian eatery developed by Puck.
The project’s primary anchors are a 30-screen AMC Theater complex and Off 5th, Saks Fifth Avenue’s outlet store.
The new tenants mean the 800,000-square-foot center is about 50% leased, said Jerry Engen, a Mills vice president and development director. The $165-million project is scheduled to open in late 1998.
