Council to Reconsider Firing of City Manager
- Share via
Only a dozen days after deciding to fire City Manager Phil Hawkey before his contract expires, the City Council today will consider rescinding that vote and keeping him at least two more years.
The special meeting was called Friday after council members voted voted 4 to 2 in a closed session to discuss keeping him as city manager until his contract runs out in October 1999. Councilman William Paparian was absent Friday.
Among those voting in the majority was Councilman Sidney Tyler, who on Dec. 8 cast a key vote to fire Hawkey as early as June.
Tyler has changed his mind before on whether Hawkey should remain in the position. In November, he was among the 4-3 majority voting to keep Hawkey until his contract expires.
The meeting is set for 4 p.m. in the City Council chambers.
