Bodyguard Still Can’t Recall Crash That Killed Diana

PARIS — Looking weak, limping slightly and still visibly scarred, bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones was questioned again Friday about the Aug. 31 crash that killed Britain’s Princess Diana. But his memory apparently has not improved.
“He still doesn’t remember the accident,” a source close to the investigation said.
That conclusion was confirmed by two other sources. All three, who spoke on condition of anonymity, had seen Investigating Magistrate Herve Stephan’s report of his meeting with Rees-Jones, 29, the sole survivor of the crash.
Investigators are not certain what caused the crash that killed Diana, her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, and the driver of their Mercedes, Henri Paul. But they apparently believe that alcohol and speed were the main factors.
Investigators are also searching for a white Fiat Uno that may have been involved in the crash.
A legal source said Friday that a new witness was interviewed Nov. 25 by another investigating magistrate, Marie-Christine Devidal. The witness described seeing a small white car in front of the Mercedes just after the crash. He said he saw a man standing outside the car, speaking on a cellular telephone, and that soon after, he saw two men who had been in the vehicle running out of the tunnel.
