Cozy Up to a Classic

“No one should have to suffer because of ugly slippers,” is Douglas Choi’s motto as well as that of his company, Seattle-based Peapod, the maker of comfy loungewear and pillowy slippers that have become the fave of TV land and hipster couch potatoes. The retro-print slippers ($14.50 per pair), splashed with coffee beans, toast, the morning newspaper, hair rollers and blow dryers have guested on “Veronica’s Closet,” “Friends,” “Seinfeld,” “Caroline in the City” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Choi, the company’s president, based his whimsical designs on the pantofle, a classic French slipper design he came across while on a visit to Paris several years ago. Also included in the line are classic pajamas, boxer shorts and robes. All are available at Bloomingdale’s, Elisa B. in Pasadena, Card de A in Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach, Crooked Alley in Westlake Village, Intima in Pacific Palisades and Planet Blue in Malibu.
