Supervisors Must Keep Tabs on CEO

* Re “Mittermeier Keeping Full Powers After Narrow Vote,” Dec. 10:
It is refreshing to see someone like Todd Spitzer on the Board of Supervisors.
I feel that someone who is attempting to hold government accountable is a welcome change from the business-as-usual group that we are accustomed to in Orange County.
Orange County is at the most important crossroad to date. Spitzer is obviously not content to allow controversial issues to be delegated and determined without the proper scrutiny they deserve.
The custom of not being attentive to details is precisely the mentality that helped plunge Orange County into the bankruptcy. I would hope that the questions being asked by Supervisors Spitzer and Thomas W. Wilson over the power of Chief Executive Officer Jan Mittermeier is indicative of a new managerial culture that makes government more efficient for the taxpayers.

* Coastal, west and central Orange County had better look at the supervisors they elect next year.
We are now led by a bureaucrat, Chief Executive Officer Jan Mittermeier, who is unable to properly estimate costs, one who does not disclose economic studies to the public and one who wants more power.
She can only be reined in by a majority of supervisors who represent us, the public. Her tenure should be the main focus of the election, as we, the people, do not want more economic chaos. Nor do we want bigger government, and she represents both.
