Gun-Wielding Man Robs Bank Branch

Authorities are searching for a man who robbed a Wells Fargo branch in Ventura on Monday afternoon and is believed to have robbed two other banks in Ventura County in recent months.

FBI Special Agent Gary Auer said a man in his late 30s entered the branch at 270 S. Mills Road in Ventura at 12:15 p.m. and demanded money from two tellers. In both instances, Auer said the suspect flashed what was believed to be a revolver.

The tellers each handed over undisclosed amounts of cash and the man fled on foot carrying the money in a paper bag, Auer said.

Auer described the robber as a stocky Latino man, about 5 feet, 10 inches and 185 pounds, with a bushy black mustache and thick, wavy, black hair. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, with a zipper, and dark pants, Auer said.

Authorities believe that the suspect robbed a Bank of America branch in Westlake on Nov. 17 and another in Oxnard on Dec. 12.

“Based on the description of the suspect and how he handled the robbery, we think this is the same person,” Auer said.

The holdup was the 25th bank robbery in the county this year, Auer said.
