2 Ex-Guards Plead Guilty to Having Sex With Inmates
Two former correctional officers at the federal Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles have pleaded guilty to having unlawful sex with female inmates.
The guards, both from the South Bay, will be sentenced in March and could serve as much as a year in federal prison.
Tyrone Rivers, 29, of Hawthorne, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of abusing his position of authority by having sexual relations with a female inmate. He is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lourdes Baird on March 2.
Mark Miles, 33, of Carson, pleaded guilty last week to abusing his position of authority by having sexual relations with another female inmate. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 16 by U.S. District Judge George King.
The FBI began investigating the incidents last year after the female inmates came forward and notified authorities, Assistant U.S. Atty. David Fields said.
