Schuller Gets Medical Clearance to Deliver Christmas Eve Sermon
The Rev. Robert H. Schuller, who suffered a minor heart attack earlier this month, is expected to deliver his annual Christmas Eve message at the Crystal Cathedral tonight.
“He’s done two treadmill tests since his heart attack, and his doctor has said he can go into the pulpit,” said Michael Nason, a spokesman for the Crystal Cathedral.
Nason said Schuller will begin with candlelight services at 3 p.m., and at 4:30 is scheduled to deliver his 200th Christmas Eve sermon.
Schuller, founder of America’s most widely watched religious program, “The Hour of Power,” has given several Christmas Eve sermons for the last 28 years.
In a prepared statement, Schuller said that tonight’s service is “particularly special” for him and his wife, Arvella, in view of his recovery.
“My full recovery from a recent heart attack has given me new energy and direction. I’m delighted to return to the pulpit on this special night of reflection, family togetherness and hope.”
