Rescue Mission Seeks Cold-Weather Clothes

Share

Because of the wet, cold, windy weather, the Orange County Rescue Mission needs donations of coats, blankets and other cold-weather gear for the homeless.

This year, socks, hats and gloves for men, women and children are secondary to donations of the heavier clothing, said Jim Palmer, president of the mission. “We haven’t seen a need for this in about five years,” he said.

The mission also has abandoned its annual solicitation for Christmas presents. Instead, Palmer is asking for canned or boxed food or bread because, he said, the agency’s first responsibility is to provide food and warm clothing for the 58,000 homeless who use the Rescue Mission.

Donations may be dropped off at the mission on Walnut and First streets in Santa Ana. Some bulk donations will be picked up by the mission.
