Nixon Library Shows Victorian-Era Toys

An exhibition of Victorian-era toys including cloth and wax dolls are on display at the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace through Jan. 4.

The show also includes Christmas gifts given to members of the first family during that time, including a porcelain doll that President Hayes gave his daughter, Fanny, and a sterling vanity set that President Harrison gave his wife, Caroline.

Several letters and diary entries from Presidents Jackson, Harrison, Buchanan, Hayes, McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt about their Christmases at the White House also are on display.

For the holidays, the museum has 20 decorated trees gracing the galleries, including an evergreen decorated with the names of 319 Orange County servicemen who died in Vietnam.
