Afternoon Program Good to the Last Drop

If the children get restless or tire of their Christmas presents, they might enjoy a relatively new drop-in recreation program here.

The program, offered to school-age kids, features various activities, including arts and crafts, sports, field trips and an occasional pizza day.

“It’s a great social interaction program for kids who aren’t in a day-care situation or involved in after-school sports activities,” said Jane Templeton, program coordinator.

Templeton said the activities offered typically appeal to kids in fourth through eighth grade.

The year-old program is administered through the city by the Irvine Youth Services Center.

There are two sites where the drop-in recreation program is held: San Marco Park, 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and Orchard Park, 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
