Code Enforcement Sweep Planned

Responding to community complaints, authorities from several county law enforcement agencies will conduct a sweep of El Rio on Tuesday, targeting everything from illegal dumping to substandard housing.

The code enforcement sweep is part of an ongoing effort to clean up eyesores and potential safety hazards throughout Ventura County’s unincorporated areas.

Officials launched the program last month in Saticoy, where they caught several stray animals and issued warnings to landlords renting garages to low-income workers. At one bar, a waitress was found living in a storage shed, said Sheriff’s Deputy Leslie Daily.

“They’re fed up with abandoned cars, dogs running around, illegal businesses,” Daily said of area residents who appealed to authorities for help.

On Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies as well as county code and animal regulation officials and the California Highway Patrol will investigate similar problems in El Rio. Residents of the area have been notified of the sweep through the mail, Daily said.

Future sweeps are planned for the Silver Strand and Hollywood Beach areas, Daily said.
