Final Push Made in Presidential Race
Kenya’s general election campaign entered its final day with presidential candidates holding last-ditch rallies in a scramble for votes. President Daniel Arap Moi was scheduled to hold a rally in Rift Valley province, while a leading opponent, Mwai Kibaki, was scheduled to appear in Nairobi, the capital. Kenya’s first credible female presidential candidate, Charity Kaluki Mwendwa Ngilu--who failed to turn up at her final rally in the capital--planned to tour her home area, aides said. Moi faces 14 opponents in Monday’s election in his bid for a fifth and final term as head of the nation of 28 million.
