Ex-Chief of FBI, CIA to Lead Advisory Panel
William H. Webster, former director of the FBI and later the CIA, was appointed Monday to lead the Commission on the Advancement of Federal Law Enforcement.
Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist named Webster to the panel, which is being created under the 1996 Death Penalty and Anti-Terrorism Act.
The commission is to study federal law enforcement policies for the next century, including deterring terrorism, planning and procedures for federal law enforcement operations and coordination with state and local officials on such operations.
The commission is to include four other members named by congressional leaders and is to file a report to Congress.
