The Best Chinese Chicken Salad?

How in the world of everything that’s good and fattening could anyone write a full-page article about Chinese chicken salad (“What’s in a Salad?,” June 18) and fail to mention the very best? Anyone with an active taste bud knows that the very best Chinese chicken salad is the version offered by Madame Sylvia Wu at her restaurant, Madame Wu’s Garden, on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica.

Madame Wu opened her Santa Monica restaurant in the early 1960s. We don’t recall when her Chinese chicken salad first appeared on the menu, but we do recall eating it in the 1970s.

I was happy to read your article on Chinese chicken salads. This is one of my favorite lunches or dinners. The only problem is, you forgot to go to one of the best Chinese chicken salad places: Feast from the East, which won a KABC Radio contest for the best Chinese chicken salad in Los Angeles.

As a huge Times Food section fan (and a big Chin Chin fan as well), I feel you have done a terrible disservice to Chin Chin by not including their Light Menu chicken salad. I would personally love to know the calorie/cholesterol/etc., count for that one, minus the fried noodles, because that’s how we virtuous dieters order it.

Your article on Chinese chicken salads was “delicious.” However, you missed my favorite of all. Strange as it may sound, the Chinese chicken salad at the restaurant in the American Airlines terminal at LAX can’t be beaten. Whenever I arrive from a flight, I get one “to go” for my next day’s lunch.
