Yorba Linda vote--A story Wednesday about Yorba Linda residents voting to keep an assessment invalidated by Proposition 218 stated incorrectly that the city was the first in Orange County to do so. On June 9, Garden Grove voters approved a park maintenance assessment under terms of Proposition 218.

The assessments, which appear on property tax bills, raise $4 million each year for tree-trimming, flower planting and lawn maintenance.

Proposition 218, passed by California voters last year, requires that taxes and assessments be put before the voters.

Since then, Stanton and San Clemente property owners have voted the cities’ utility taxes out of existence. Irvine and Tustin are both having special Proposition 218 elections this month.
