School Trustees OK 2-Year Contracts

Share

Locking in the next two years’ salaries for most district employees, Simi Valley Unified School District trustees have approved a series of contracts granting teachers and staff a 7% raise for the next year.

The contracts, approved late Tuesday, will also give employees a 6% pay raise during the 1998-99 school year.

Trustees, however, held off on voting on contracts for the district’s assistant superintendents. Trustee Carla Kurachi said the district’s new interim superintendent, Albert “Bud” Marley, suggested that trustees consider a salary schedule that would pay the district’s veteran assistant superintendents more than new hires. The school board asked for more information on the idea and will discuss it at the board’s next meeting, Kurachi said.

The approved contracts will cost the district about $4.3 million during the 1997-98 school year and about $3.9 million the following year.
