The inaugural Independence Day Cup, an international cricket tournament including teams from Jamaica, India and the United States, continues today through Sunday at Woodley Cricket Fields in Sepulveda Dam Recreation Center.

The tournament, which began Wednesday, is sanctioned by the Southern California Cricket Assn., an affiliate of the U.S. Cricket Assn.

The goal of tournament organizers is to further the game’s popularity in the United States. Toward that end, the SCCA last month submitted a preliminary bid to play host to the International Cricket Council tournament in 2001.
