Are you ready for gothic dance pop?

That’s what Immortal Records President Happy Walters had in mind for the soundtrack for “Spawn,” the darkly lit, live-action movie based on the celebrated comic book character. The album, “Spawn--The Album,” is due July 29, while the film itself will be released Aug. 1 by New Line Cinema.

As with Walters’ hit soundtrack for “Judgment Night,” which paired rappers such as Cypress Hill and Ice-T with rock bands including Pearl Jam and Slayer, the new album teams some of the hottest alternative rock acts with hit bands or producers from the British and U.S. dance and electronic worlds. Among the collaborations: Korn and the Dust Brothers, Marilyn Manson and the Sneaker Pimps, Metallica and DJ Spooky, and Prodigy with Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello.

“I’m a fan of the comic book, which is really dark and edgy, and very hip,” Walters said. “I wanted to give the movie something new, . . . something that wasn’t just metal and wasn’t hip-hop either. . . . The groups all really identified with the vibe of the film. Some literally wrote about Spawn while others just fed off of the ambience.”
