British Airways Strike to Affect Flights

British Airways said it will cancel more than half of its intercontinental flights from London’s Heathrow Airport and three-quarters of European flights from there starting Wednesday after talks on preventing a 72-hour strike by the cabin-crew union broke down. BA, Europe’s largest airline and the dominant carrier between the U.S. and Britain, said it also will cancel about two-thirds of intercontinental flights from London’s Gatwick Airport. A BA spokeswoman said the move came after the airline’s largest cabin-crew union, the 9,000-member British Airline Stewards and Stewardesses Assn., pulled out of negotiations. The union couldn’t be reached for comment.
