Edmund Burke

Persons who idolize Edmund Burke as the patron saint of conservatism (Column Right, by James Pinkerton, July 3) remind me of those who refuse to admit that the 2nd Amendment is a complete sentence. Good order is great but Burke denied his fellow citizens the right to change their form of government. As Paine said, Burke sponsored the ultimate kind of totalitarianism: the dead ruling over the living. Sacrificing freedom in the name of order is the hallmark of tyrants.
