Cable TV Work Sites Raise Safety Concerns
The Santa Rosa Valley Community Assn. will meet next week to discuss recent horse injuries--and one pony’s death--and ask cable TV companies working in the area to improve safety around construction sites.
Penelope Burley, an association member, said her horse, Dusty, cut his leg last month when he fell down an open trench near a bridle trail on Vista Grande Road.
The next day, Norrie Schanafelt, Burley’s neighbor on Honey Hill Drive, said her pony, Chief, was spooked by cable workers using loud machinery, ran into a nearby fence, fractured its leg and had to be euthanized.
The association has invited Cabletec Services and Lucent Technologies, which have contracts with GTE to lay down cable lines, to talk about how to prevent more accidents.
Burley suggested the companies might warn neighbors, mark the area with safety signs and cover open trenches when they are not in use.
The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. Monday at Rancho Santa Rosa Clubhouse, 11701 E. Las Posas Road.
