One Little Fix for an Otherwise Fine Story

Share

I would like to correct an inaccuracy in Shari Roan’s otherwise well-balanced article “Data May Renew Debate Over Silicone Implants” (June 26). I have not “been hired by the Mentor Corp. . . . to analyze its study data in preparation for submitting it to the FDA.”

As required by the FDA, Mentor has accumulated a great deal of information on gel implants, and this was analyzed by an independent firm. This will be submitted to the agency by the company when completed. I have been asked by Mentor to review this information and present it to the medical community. There is no remuneration for this, nor have I any financial relationship with the Mentor Corp. I do not own any stock in the company.
