City May Seek New Golf Management Firm

Share

With negotiations stalled between the city and the company that has run Olivas Park Golf Course since 1982, the City Council is expected to seek a new company to help operate the city’s two municipal courses.

The council will consider Monday night advertising for a new company to provide services during the next year or two at Olivas and Buenaventura golf courses, while a long-term operations and management plan is developed.

A study found that the amount of money the city made from the Olivas Park course was below market value.

Despite 30 hours of discussion held during 10 meetings, the city has failed to reach a new agreement with Avila Golf Management for course operations, officials said.

Avila’s contract to operate all aspects of Olivas and the pro shop at nearby Buenaventura expires Sept. 30. City workers maintain the Buenaventura course.

Last month the council voted to begin a $30,000 study to determine Ventura’s golf needs and draw up a plan to meet them.
