Career Civil Servant Named to Treasury Post

WASHINGTON — Timothy F. Geithner, a career civil servant, has been nominated by President Clinton to be assistant secretary of the Treasury for international affairs.
Geithner, 35, would fill the position held by David A. Lipton, who was nominated two weeks ago to the department’s top financial diplomacy post, undersecretary for international affairs.
Geithner has worked for the Treasury Department since 1988.
