The pace at which businesses in Ventura County were being incorporated during the second quarter was three times the state’s growth rate.

A total of 225 new Ventura County businesses were registered with the secretary of state from April 1 to June 30, according to CDB Infotek, a public records information service. This is 16% more than the volume in the same period in 1996, when 194 businesses incorporated.

Statewide, 13,075 new businesses were registered, an increase of 5.1% from 12,445 in the second quarter of 1996. It was California’s strongest second quarter since 1989, when 16,280 businesses were incorporated.

“California’s economy is growing and jobs are being created,” said Rick Rozar, CDB president. “While the Bay Area and Silicon Valley led the statistics two years ago, virtually the whole state--including the Central Valley--is growing now.”

In Southern California, two other counties besides Ventura experienced double-digit growth. San Bernardino showed growth of 18.7%, and the number of incorporations in Santa Barbara County rose from 83 to 119, an increase of 43.4%.

Sacramento County showed a surprising 63.3% year-to-year jump in business incorporations, from 267 to 436.
