310 to Stop Working in New 562 Area Code
Callers dialing the new 562 area code, covering part of northern Orange County, will have to dial the area code to complete a call beginning July 26, industry officials said.
The 562 area code was created when the 310 area code was split in January. Consumers were given a six-month “get acquainted” period that enabled them to use either the 310 or 562 area code when calling a number in the new area code. That will end later this month when callers will have to use the correct area code when dialing a number in the 562 or 310 area codes.
Orange County cities affected by the change are Los Alamitos, La Habra, Brea and La Palma. They will be included in the new 562 area code.
