From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A sudden rainstorm caused flash flooding across northern Vermont, forcing the evacuation of more than 300 people from a lakeside Boy Scout camp and closing highways. Residents from around Lake Eden assembled “a motley flotilla” of boats and canoes to ferry 300 campers and about 50 adults from the Boy Scout Camp at Mount Norris, said Steve Kerr, scoutmaster. The campers, from the fifth grade through high school, were taken across the lake to a school in Eden. The town was cut off from outside contact by streams.
